Welcome

Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to carry it on your own.

Maybe something has happened recently, or maybe you’ve been holding the same thing for a long time. Either way, reaching out is the hardest part - and you’ve already started. From here, we take it gently, together.

How I Help

Counselling, shaped around you

Two service options, both rooted in really listening - without judgement, and at a pace that feels manageable.

Individual Counselling

One-to-one sessions for whatever you’re facing - a current crisis or something longstanding.

I am trained in person-centred therapy which means I will give you space to help you discuss what is going on for you personally and relationally, to feel that you have been heard and understood and to try and make sense of where you are ‘at’.

  • Anxiety & stress
  • Depression
  • Grief & loss
  • Trauma & abuse
  • Self-esteem

£50 per session - concessions available

Couples Counselling

Support for relationships under strain - drifting apart, struggling to communicate, or working through a breach of trust. A calm, even-handed space where both of you can be heard.

I am trained in the RELATE approach which draws on several therapeutic modalities and uses the strategies and theories that are the best fit for the couple.

  • Communication
  • Rebuilding trust
  • Life transitions
  • Feeling distant

£70 per session - concessions available

About Julie

Real, human, and on your side

I’m Julie. I hold an MSc with Distinction in Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Aberdeen, a certificate in Couples Counselling from Relationship Scotland, and I’m a Registered Member of the BACP.

Before counselling I worked in social research, which only deepened my interest in supporting people through challenging situations - current or historic. Counselling is something I’ve always felt strongly about, having experienced its benefits myself.

“I’m very real, not robotic. I adapt to each person, because we’re all individuals - and I can connect with people regardless of the differences between us.”

I’m passionate about helping people understand themselves better and live as fully as they can within their own unique circumstances.

How I Work

It can be hard work - but it’s worth it, and you’re not alone in it

There’s no script and no fixed formula. We work alongside each other, and I’ll be there at every step.

01

At your pace

We move as quickly or as slowly as you need. Some weeks we may work on something very specific, other weeks you might have nothing in mind and just want to see what comes up for you.

02

Person to person

I’m warm and down to earth - not detached. There’s room for honesty, and yes, sometimes laughter, even in the middle of hard things.

03

Led by you

You’re the expert on your own life. Together we figure out what you need and what, if anything, you’d like to change.

04

Made to fit you

No two people are the same, so no two journeys are. I adapt how I work to suit you, whatever’s going on.

What I Help With

You don’t need a reason that sounds ‘big enough’

I’ve worked with a wide range of individuals and couples. Whatever you’re carrying, there’s a space for it here.

  • Grief & loss
  • Trauma & abuse

  • Substance misuse
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Self-harm

Questions you might have

What happens before the first session?

Following our initial chat - whether over email or on the phone - I will email you a contract detailing our working agreement, which must be signed before the first session takes place.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other - what’s brought you here, and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to. It’s also a chance to see how it feels to work together.

How long are sessions, and how often?

Sessions usually last around 50 minutes, and most people come weekly to begin with. We can find a rhythm that suits you - there’s no fixed number of sessions you have to commit to.

How much does it cost?

Individual sessions are £50 and couples sessions are £70, with concessions available. There’s no charge for the initial 15-minute chat.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. As well as in-person sessions in Westhill, I offer counselling online by video - which can work well if face to face is tricky.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between us, within the BACP Ethical Framework I work to. If there were ever a rare situation where that needed to change - usually around safety - I’d talk it through with you. Exceptions to this are explained in our contract.

I’ve never done this before - is that okay?

Completely. Most people feel unsure at first, and you don’t need to know what to say or where to start. That’s my job - to help you find the words, in your own time.
